Welcome to the Completion Engineering Association website!

The Completion Engineering Association (CEA) exists such that the impact of completions is better understood in the D/C reservoir community, as well as having a venue to move innovative technology along more rapidly to get it to the market place quicker, thus building value for the Member companies.

The purposes and objectives of the Association are therefore to advance the state-of-the-art of well completion technology by providing a forum for:

  1. Presentations, discussions and debates on the current and future state-of-the-art in well completion technology.

  2. The presentation of proposals for completion-related projects sponsored by Members of the Association for participation by Members and non-Members alike.

  3. Exploring the levels of interest of Members in potential completion related problems to aid in developing future industry sponsored projects.

  4. Advising academic organizations and other industry groups of the needs and interests of Members.

The Association is not organized for profit or organized to engage in an activity ordinarily carried on for profit.

CEA recently awarded 11 x $1000 scholarships, for the Spring semester 2010, given to students studying petroleum engineering. For more information and to see photos of the sponsored students, please see: Scholarship

The CEA has extended its value added services to the industry by putting on technical symposiums which address state-of-the-art in completions technology and facilitate the uptake of new completions technology.

The CEA recently undertook a survey of its members to direct the 2010 activities. "Completion Performance" scored very highly and has become the subject for this year's symposium (for more information see: symposium):

Title: Completion Performance Symposium

Date: Tuesday 9th & Wednesday 10th November 2010

There have been four symposium in 2007, 2008, and 2009:

The first CEA symposium was: Perforating Technology: The Inside Story: Latest Case Histories and New Technologies in Spring 2007 with Phil Snider (Marathon) and David Atwood (Schlumberger) acting as chairmen.

The second CEA Symposium was on 'Tight Gas and Unconventional Resource Fracturing', with Carl Montgomery (ConocoPhillips) and Richard Keck (BP) acting as Chairman.

The third CEA Symposium was on 'Frac Pack Completions: From Current Lessons Learned / Best Practices to On-going Technical and Operational Challenges & Opportunities'. The chairmen are: Rick Dickerson (Chevron) & Dave Tiffin (BP) and it took place in June 2008.

The fourth CEA symposium was on Open Hole Sand Control Completions and took place on 4th & 5th November 2009 in Houston. The symposium chairmen were Luis Bianco (Chevron) & Tony Bernardi (Shell).

All four were great successes, averaging over 100 attendees: For more information on these symposiums, please see: symposium.
